Medella was founded through a deep commitment to bring together the hard-won wisdom of those of us facing the steepest of life's health challenges in our own lives and the lives of our children.
We offer a private place to keep what we each find beneficial as well as powerful collaborative features that elevate our independent and common insights, strategies, and resources.
What inspires us most? It's the chance to face these enormous problems together and find new ways to tap into the full power of our committed community by leveraging our collective wisdom, compassion, and the good judgment that comes only from experience.
Care to join us? We hope so. We’ll look for you inside.
On any topic you know, ask yourself:
Who are the professionals, service providers,
consultants and other individuals you’d recommend?
Which websites, blogs, recipes, articles and other
intangible things work well?
What are the best products, books, magazines, tools,
foods and other tangible items?
Which businesses, classes, schools, parks or other
locations are excellent?
Think of Medella as a way for all of us to get through life’s
ups and downs more easily.
Cards are just notecards.
Topics are simply folders.
Your Catalog is your personal file cabinet.
The rest of Medella just curates wisdom on your behalf.
It’s really that simple.
Are you an apiary expert? Make a “Beekeeping 101”
Topic and fill it with cards about what to buy, useful
books and articles, and recipes for honeycomb candy.
Share your wisdom with budding beekeepers.
Are you at the bottom of the steep learning curve of
a new health diagnosis? Privately search for and save
cards for doctors, classes, blogs, recipes, and exercises
that have worked for others who have been there
before and refer to them as you go.
Click on a trending topic (to the left) and see what other
Medella users are up to. Or, send our founder,
Alissa
, a
friend request and check out her Catalog and cards. You
can also visit our
blog
or sign up for periodic tips, videos
and more from our team.
Just click your profile picture in the upper right corner and follow the prompts.
Your name and profile picture are PUBLIC but your complete profile is only available to the audience you select in your Profile Settings. The default setting is PRIVATE.
A CARD is a virtual bookmark that pinpoints the best people, places, and things in life that are identified by all of us. Cards are always PUBLIC and available to all Medella users.
That being said, privacy is extremely important, so even though a copy of each card is viewable via Search, no one will know who created it. In fact, no one will even know you have a copy unless you set the FOLDER PRIVACY LEVEL in which you save that card to be viewable by others.Your folder privacy default setting is always PRIVATE.
Cards are not advertisements! Cards are bookmarks that identify excellent, people, places and things. So … this means only factual information such as contact info, website URL, basic description, etc. should be included on a card.
That’s not to say your comments about why that person, place, or thing is amazing aren’t important! Add your thoughts to any card you save in the COMMENT FIELD below the card. Your comments will only be visible to others based on the privacy settings of the folder(s) you save it in.
Bottom line is, the better the information you add to a card, the more helpful it will be to others. Cards can make a real difference in someone’s life if they are crafted well.
The integrity of Medella will stay in tact if we all add “just the facts” to cards and our personal thoughts in the comment section.
Simply click the CREATE A CARD button in the upper right and enter information as indicated.
TITLE/NAME and CATEGORY (drop down list) are required. All other fields are optional but the more quality information you add, the better.
Again, following the prompts, once the Card is complete, push the CARD COMPLETE button near the bottom. Then, SAVE the card to one or more FOLDERS and add your comments about why that person, place or thing is Medella to each.
Organize your cards in topical folders—Moving To a New City, Dependable Seattle Professionals, Caring For Your Beta Fish, Marketing-related TED Talks, etc.
You always control the visibility of your Folders, including the title and any cards in it.
The default privacy setting for all folders is “PRIVATE” (only you can see it), but you can also choose “LIMITED” (all of your friends or a specific list of friends can see it) or “PUBLIC” (everyone in Medella can see it).
Personal comments you add to any card should be specific to the topic of the Folder it’s in. You may have one card in multiple folders, with different comments on each of them.
FOR EXAMPLE:
A card for Bob’s Diner may be in your FAVORITE RESTAURANTS FOLDER with this comment: “We’ve been eating here for 14 years and have never been disappointed.”
A copy of the same Bob’s Diner card may also be in your GLUTEN-FREE FOLDER with this comment: “I’m in love with Bob’s gluten-free pancakes.”
We are very concerned about privacy, which is why all of our default settings are PRIVATE.
There’s always a public copy of each card that’s created in what we like to call the Medellaiverse, so everyone can see, keep, and share it BUT no one will know that you created a card, added it to a folder or commented on it unless you’ve set the privacy level of the folder(s) you’ve saved it in to include them.
To find a friend, simply type their name into the top search bar and press Enter. You will then see a list of potential matches and you can send a friend request.
Then, in your FRIENDS tab you can manage your connections, create private lists of friends, and introduce friends to one another.
You can use Medella simply as a private tool for collecting and organizing info for yourself alone.
You can also see what others are finding and sharing on Medella by clicking on your SEARCH & FOLLOW TAB or HOME/LOGO in the upper left of the screen.
Your basic live stream will include recent and popular CARDS and TOPICS posted by other Medella users.
Use the SEARCH bar to find specific cards and topics like you would normally.
Zero in on cards from specific PEOPLE or on certain TOPICS by FOLLOWING them.
To follow a person or topic, simply add their name/title to your list on the left side of your follow screen.
Check those you want view in your feed any time. Uncheck or delete if you’re no longer interested in following them.
